Sash Window Repairs

Bringing new life to your timber windows

If you have timber sash windows or casement windows and they are rotten or in a deteriorated condition and urgently need a little care and attention, we can repair them for you here at Browns and leave you with a flawless result.

At Brown’s, we specialise in timber window repairs across Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas. If your beautiful period timber sash windows or casement windows are showing signs of wear, we can restore them to their former glory.

Our approach is straightforward and cost-effective: we focus on targeted restoration that extend the life of your windows for decades, saving you money compared to a complete overhaul. Whether you face rotten sections, decayed frames, sticking sashes, or draughts creeping in, we’re here to help.

Benefits of timber window repairs

Have your windows repaired as soon as possible once you notice a problem. Windows are important as they protect your home from draughts and help to keep it insulated, but they are prone to rot and decay if the wood becomes wet, due to old or flaking paint.

We handle a full range of timber sash window repairs and timber casement window repairs, using traditional joinery skills combined with modern materials for lasting results.

  • Rotten timber splicing and repair We carefully remove decayed wood and splice in new, matching timber sections. This seamless method restores strength without visible joins.
  • Two-part resin and filler repairs For smaller areas of damage, we use Repair Care high-quality, weather-resistant fillers that bond perfectly and can be sanded and painted to match.
  • Hardwood sill replacement Window sills bear the brunt of water exposure and rarely benefit from splicing. We always replace rotten sills with solid, treated hardwood for a superior, long-lasting finish.
  • Frame and sash realignment If your windows are sticking, rattling, or difficult to open/close, we can adjust and repair the frames and sashes for smooth, effortless operation.
  • Minor joinery fixes From cracked glazing bars to loose joints, we address issues before they worsen.

Sash window repair specialists

Many older homes in Nottinghamshire feature stunning original timber windows that add real character and charm. But over time, exposure to moisture, flaking paint, and general wear can lead to rot and deterioration. In the vast majority of cases however, full replacement isn’t necessary.

We can repair and splice damaged timber, fill voids with specialist two-part resin or filler, and replace worn sills with durable hardwood – all while preserving the authentic look and feel of your property.

Common signs your timber windows need attention

Spotting problems early makes repairs quicker, easier, and more affordable. Watch out for these common indicators:

  • Visible rot or soft, spongy timber (especially around sills, bottom rails, and meeting rails)
  • Flaking, peeling, or cracked paint that allows water ingress
  • Draughts around closed windows, leading to higher heating bills
  • Sashes that stick, drop, or won’t stay open
  • Rattling frames or gaps when closed
  • Mould, discolouration, or a musty smell near the windows

If you’ve noticed any of these, don’t delay, untreated rot spreads quickly and can lead to more extensive (and expensive) damage.
